JOINT HOLIDAY

Traditionally the Jewish Cultural Center KEDEM celebrated USA Independence day to share the joy of the holiday with partners, friends and relatives who live overseas. This year on July 7 on all the grounds of the JCC – in the Theatre Hall, Open Air, main hall of the 1st floor everything was prepared for celebration.

Another reason to celebrate U.S. Independence Day: an American businessman and philanthropist Irwin Jacobs was the main sponsor of the KJJC construction and the activities of our center were made possible thanks to the American Jewish Committee "Joint".

On behalf of the JCC Director of the JCC Stella Harmelina and Deputy Director Michael Finckel greeted over 120 people and thanked for the support of Kedem programs representatives of the Embassy of the United States and Federal agencies of the U.S. government.

Mrs. Kara McDonald, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova said the United States seeks to help Moldova in the democratic and economic reforms, to become free, prosperous and democratic European state.
"The ongoing struggle for equality has never been easy for the United States, and we have no illusions that it will be easy for Moldova. But we know it is the right thing to do and it will be worth it”, she said.

Two nice presentations proving the American diversity and richness of ethnicities, cultures, traditions followed by Peace Corps volunteers in Moldova – Carl Donovan and Elsa Leal. Carl, a resident of Seattle, who in the age of 70 yearsš became Peace Corps volunteer and by a happy coincidence, was sent to our JCC for a year helps in implementation of our programs, conducts business class at the International Center of Training and Professional Development. Elsa, a Mexican-born, spoke about how, in the age of 11 with his parents she moved to Los Angeles, about the way her family passed to becoming full-fledged citizens of the United States

And then soloists of the JCC studio "Tal Tal" presented their musical gifts.

Celebration and communication continued in the Open Air space where traditional American (hot-dogs with Cola) and Moldovan meals (placinte with cherry) where suggested to the guests.

When people celebrate together, their friendships grow stronger. Peace and prosperity to our countries!
