Summing Up the Year

Coming to the Rosh-ha-Shana every Jewish person and community makes sum up their activities during the past year. JCC KEDEM did the same. On September 27 it conducted two events in one – the first was International project “People of the World Write the Bible” organized together with “Hevruta in Moldova” project supported by JDC and Pincus Fund. And the second – awards to people and organizations who won in seven nominations “Person of the Year”.

Over 100 people including Ambassadors of Russian and Czech Republic, Director of the Bureau of Interethnic Relations, heads of the biggest cultural institutions of the country, other ethnic communities, leaders of the Jewish organizations became the official guests of the event. Reb Zalman-Leib Abelsky, chief Rabbi of Moldova, congratulated everybody with the coming holiday and wished health, peace and good inscription for the next year. People copied chapters from Tehilim (Psalms) book in special forms that later will be sent to the Bible Institute in Israel for publication. Everybody received certificates of participants of the project.

Holiday of Ethnic Cultures

On bright and sunny Sunday of September 18 the 11th Interethnic Festival conducted by Moldova Government took place in the Central Park of Kishinev. KJJC was again among the most active groups on the Jewish street that traditionally is the most visited on the Festival.

All the organizations exhibited their flyers, banners, materials, video and photos. The street was seething and noisy as a hive. Hundreds of people came in and out asking about the activities, taking information and signing for programs. As always the highest officials including executing President, Prime Minister, ex-President, mayor and others visited with pleasure our street.

To Be as One Family: The First Tolerance Camp in Moldova

On August 17 in a picturesque place of Vadul-lui-Voda (40 km from Kishinev) the first in Moldova International camp “Sources of Tolerance” started. The 10-days camp s organized by the JCC KEDEM, Congress of Ethnic Communities of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Bureau of Interethnic Relations of Moldova and with financial support of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress and American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Moldova.

The opening was greeted by many representatives of diplomatic corps of Moldova: Ms. Hillebrand, Consul of German Embassy, Mr. Panin, counselor of Ukrainian Embassy, representatives of the Russian Embassy, Bureau of Interethnic Relations of Moldova, ethnic communities of Moldova, Jewish organizations.

Festive Events at the KJJC

On August 25 two bright events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Republic of Moldova Independence and ethnic communities’ revival took place at the KJJC.

The first was the opening of technically renewed KJJC Museum of the Bessarabia Jewish History. The project was realized thanks to the grant program of the Peace Corps in Moldova. Matt Easter, the head of The Political-Economic Section of the USA Embassy, and Peace Corps Moldova Country Director Jeffrey Goveia greeted the audience who gathered in Museum
