Elul – Month of Thoughts and Devotions

Following the Jewish calendar, Elul is the last month of the year, preceding Rosh-ha-shana and Yom Kippur. On Elul, Jews recall all the good and bad affairs, accomplished in the past. There is a tradition to visit the graves of the intimates during these days.
Since the Jewish Charity Fund “Dor-le-dor” under compulsion of the local authorities was forced to interrupt its work on the Jewish cemetery, which contained keeping it in order, the territory came to desolation. So there was enough work for everybody.
On 19th of August (5th of Elul, 5767) over 50 people from the Jewish community visited the Jewish cemetery. Under the initiative of the JCC KEDEM, there was conducted a volunteer Sunday work. Staff members and volunteers from the JCC KEDEM, Jewish library, “NES” and “Hesed Yehuda” made order on the graves and parts adjacent to them.
