Humanitarian aid Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe. Among the needy are members of the Jewish community: retired, disabled, Holocaust survivors, young unemployed individuals, and their children. Few of them can afford to buy new clothes, have a computer or even toys for children. In numerous families younger children wear torn clothes and shoes after their elder siblings. In 2005, JDC-Moldova thanks to the World Jewish Relief, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, and JDC-NY received 14 containers full of humanitarian aid. The aid was distributed both to Jewish (85%) and non-Jewish (15%) needy receipients. However, we are still in a big need of clothes, shoes, pampers for kids and adults, bed-clothes, computers, toys and stationery. “Thou shalt surely open thy hand unto thy poor and needy brother.”
