In 1996, on the JDC's initiative, a group of Jewish students created the first Hillel in Moldova. Over the last seven years, dozens of young adults have begun to participate in Hillel programs, gradually returning to their roots, culture and traditions. Today, some of them are starting Jewish families of their own.

In May 2003, Dr. Harris, a mohel, visited Kishinev for the first time. During the Soviet regime it was almost impossible and even dangerous to make brit-mila for your child. Since the Kishinev Jewish community does not have its own mohel, Dr. Harris used the opportunity to perform a brit-mila for five local Hillel students, a celebration that became one of the most festive and symbolic events in Moldova Hillel's history.

In June he came again: a young Jewish couple from Kishinev Hillel gave birth to their first-born. Relatives, friends and students gathered at the local yeshiva, where the ceremony took place. Jewish tradition is continuing in Moldova and another Jewish boy sealed his covenant with G-d!
