On August 27 Republic of Moldova marks its 17th Independence Day. Kishinev Jacobs Jewish Campus together with over 210 guests celebrated this holiday with a wonderful solo concert by Professor Mikhail Muntean, the best opera singer of the country, People’s Artist of the USSR. Among the honorary guests was Mr. Pirozhkov, Ambassador of Ukraine in the Republic of Moldova, with the spouse. Maestro Muntean is one of those people who write the history of the country. In August 2008 Mikhail Muntean celebrated his 65 years anniversary, but his voice is still clear and strong. Brilliant performance of romances in Moldova, Russian, and Ukrainian, Neapolitans songs, arias from “The Queen of Spades” and “Pagliacci” operas as well as fine sense of humor, interesting stories about artistic tours made the soiree even warmer. Every song finished with loud applauses and shouts “Bravo”.
“It was one of the best concerts in the KJJC”, said musicologist Elena Abramovich.
“We are proud that Mikhail Muntean is a big friend of our Campus. He takes part in our events, and today created a real holiday atmosphere”, said Stella Harmelina, JCC Director.
“I was happy to receive your invitation. I like your scene and special atmosphere in the Jewish Home. I feel here not as a guest, because I have a lot of friends in the KJJC”, said in the end Maestro Muntean. “I think it was only one of my first concerts here and we’ll meet many times”.
