In July-August 2008 Republic of Moldova became one of the victims of exceptional rain showers and floods. Hundreds of houses were destroyed, and thousands of people lost their households.
On August 20 2008 JDC Branch in Moldova organized a humanitarian action for the victims of the flood.
Sveta Chekhmir, JDC Programs coordinator in Moldova, Mickey Katsif, JDC representative in Moldova, and Alla Bolbochanu, JDC-Moldova Head of Welfare & Community Programs Department gave to Vadul-lui-Voda town municipality (situated in 30 km from Kishinev) over 55 boxes with clothes, shoes, furnishing and hygienic cleaning agents. This is one of the most suffered settlements during the calamity.
“It is a very important act and a real assistance to us in this difficult period”, said Elena Karavainova, City Social Assistance Department Vice-chief. “We know that American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee always took part in such humanitarian actions, rendered assistance to people of all nationalities. Thank you very much. We highly appreciate your help.”
