The Second International Festival of Languages – 2009, organized by the JCC KEDEM Tolerance Club headed by Kreyderman Kyra, passed on with the slogan “A person lives so long as many languages he knows”. People who came at 29^th March to attend the event could get acquainted with 16 languages.

The festival was a unique opportunity to know better the group of languages from European continent, such as English, German, Italian, Lithuanian and Hungarian; to plunge in the languages, which are spoken by Moldova’s ethnic groups, like Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Armenian and Roma (gypsy) and to have a deep look at the group of Eastern languages, such as Hebrew, Swahili, Arabic, Hindi and Japanese.

The atmosphere created by organizers of festival gave participants possibilities to communicate in various languages, became closer to various cultures and appreciate our different backgrounds. The festival picked up all, regardless of the age, social status and country. For instance, the youngest participant of the festival was seven years old; she represented Bulgarian culture with the teacher and pupils from Bulgarian lyceum. Among our teachers were teacher and pupils from Ukrainian lyceum, representatives of Gypsy and Armenian communities, professional teachers of Romanian and Russian. We received professional lessons of German, English, Italian, Japanese and Hungarian language by volunteers from Europe and USA, who work now in the NGOs and educational centers in Moldova. The Center of Refugees was represented by one of the popular in the Africa continent – Swahili language. The active members of Tolerance club introduced in an interactive way and on the highest level Lithuanian, Hebrew, Bulgarian, Arabic, Russian, Hindi and Japanese languages.

Each lesson lasted for 40 minutes and after that, participants drawn on the special figures of “manikin” the words and symbols, which they have memorized to the end of the lesson.

The last minutes of the Festival were also pleasant for participants, they had possibility to communicate with each other during coffee-break and study some national dances.

Approximately 150 people were with us during the Festival of Languages.
