This year it could be 80 years to an eminent scientist, historian and Jewish community leader – Yakov Kopansky. Professor and Dr. in History, he was author of 14 books and hundreds publications about Moldova and Bessarabia Jewry history, biographies, JDC input in the life of the local community. Dr. Kopansky for many years was Hesed Yehuda Board Chair, participated in revival of the Jewish community life in Moldova in 1980s and 1990s.

A memorial plaque in honor of Prof. Kopansky was mounted on the building where he lived. Heads and representatives of the local Jewish community, Academy of Sciences of Moldova, scientists, colleagues, friends, widow and son came to the ceremony.

Above all the merits as a scientist, professor, advisor and tutor for the young generation, Yakov Kopansky was a kind, open and sincere person who devoted his life and efforts to the Jewish community prosperity.
