Toronto-Kishinev: Perspective Visit

During June 23-24 delegation from the Jewish Federation of Greater Toronto visited Kishinev. Our guests acquainted with the activities of the Kishinev Jacobs Jewish Campus, visited clients of Jewish Family service and Hesed, met with the leaders of organizations as well as with young Jewish businessmen – graduates of Dr. Simchovich’ Business School - and young generation from Hillel and Madrichim School.
“We have a long and very fruitful cooperation with the Federation of Toronto”, said Stella Harmelina, JCC Director. “They were among the sponsors of the KJJC, support many cultural and welfare programs. We have a program of cooperation between our JCC and Bathurst JCC of Toronto. We support nice personal relations with Sherry Kulman nad Adam Minsky”.

NCSJ Visit

During May 19-21official delegation of the National Council for Soviet Jewry visited Republic of Moldova. As it is said on the home site of the organization, “The mission of NCSJ is to safeguard the individual and communal political rights of Jews living in the former Soviet Union and to secure their religious and political freedoms.”
The program included both official meetings on the highest level – with Mr. Vladimir Voronin, the President of Moldova, Mrs. Zinaida Grechany, Prime Minister of the country, Mr. Michael Kirby, USA Ambassador in Moldova and with the Jewish community representatives.
Guests made tour of the Jewish Kishinev, met with Dr. Simhovich, the Kishinev Jacobs Jewish Campus Board Chair, and visited KJJC where they were briefed by Stuart Saffer, JDC Country Director for Moldova and Belarus.

Celebrations Continue

During May 14-17, a representative delegation from the Jewish Communities Federation of Romania visited Moldova in the frames of celebration of Israeli Independence Day in our countries. Delegation was headed by Romanian Parliament deputy Dr. Aurel Vainer, Chair of the Federation, and Mr. Israel Sabag, JDC Representative in Romania.

During their visit our neighbors met with the leaders of the Moldova Jewish community, took part in festive events and made a visit to the KJJC. They left PR materials of the JCC in Bucharest and expressed their admiration of the premises and programs they saw.

WJR: Bringing Help and Hope

On May 14th, 2008, World Jewish Relief’s (WJR) signature program Mission Impossible made it to Kishinev, Moldova. For only the second time, an 11-member team drove all the way from London to Kishinev, covering over 3000 kilometers in just four days, in order to donate two Renault mini-vans for use in welfare programs in the periphery Jewish communities in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa. Upon arrival in Moldova, the group was greeted by a large ceremony hosted by the welfare organization Hesed and NES Jewish Family Services, welcoming them to the country and expressing thanks for their generosity. Afterwards, the team spent four days going on home visits and attending various programs, including after school clubs, a football practice session with local Maccabi team and a meeting with Jewish business leaders and Kishinev Jacobs Jewish Campus Board members.

Israeli Delegation in the KJJC

On April 2, high guests from Israel visited KJJC in the frames of their official visit to Moldova.
Zvi Rav-Ner, Director of Central Europe department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Shahar Arieli, charge d’affairs at the Israeli Embassy in Ukraine and Moldova, accompanied by Alex Goldenberg, Israeli Cultural Center Director in Moldova, were met by Mickey Katsiff, JDC-Branch director in Moldova, and Michael Finckel, JCC deputy director.
